Hazlegrove Prep School in Somerset is set within 200 acres of parkland and includes gardens, a six-hole golf course and sports fields and pitches, all maintained by their dedicated grounds team. Graham Kitley has been at the helm of the Hazlegrove grounds maintenance team since early 2017.
Hazlegrove Prep School is one of the UK’s most prestigious prep schools; an expectation of excellence permeates everything that happens there.
First impressions are vital, and nothing could be more front-line and in the public eye than the school’s sports facilities, lawns and gardens. Everything must be kept in the best possible condition at all times.
Graham Kitley has been at the helm of the Hazlegrove grounds maintenance team since early 2017. He and his crew maintain all the gardens, a six-hole golf course and all the sports fields and pitches – 22 acres in all.
Trimax a Key Team Member
The first piece of equipment Graham invested in when he arrived at Hazlegrove was a Trimax Procut 237. He bought it because, in his words, “I felt that I needed some other kind of machine to cope with the amount of grass I have here. And when you’ve got pupils out in the afternoon and we’ve got to be on the ground first thing in the morning, the Trimax is brilliant.”
When Mowing Can’t Wait
Being governed by school timetables means the ground crew often has to mow wet grass. Graham tells us how the Procut copes, “We have got quite a wet site during the winter and Trimax enables us to get out on the ground early. Doesn’t matter if it’s wet, dewy, it just carries on through.”
